A Biography of Cliff Wright
President of C.F. Wright Group

"I was born on March 1, 1942 in
Edmonton, Alberta. I lived on a farm at Jarrow, Alberta with my parents
who ran a mixed farm. I attended grade school at Jarrow School then
attended Irma High School for two years.
After leaving high school, I worked as a
farm hand for a few years then went to work on drilling rigs as a
derrick hand. I worked oilfield in the winter and road construction in
the summer.
I was married in 1963 with three of my
five children being born in Alberta. In 1967, I left Viking, Alberta and
packed up the family and moved to Cassiar, BC where the youngest two
were born. In Cassiar, I worked as an equipment operator for two years
then transferred to the power house and boiler house for the next four
years. Always the entrepreneur, after hours we ran an Avis U Drive and
sold snow jet snowmobiles and Uniroyal tires.
In 1971, I bought my first truck and
hauled gravel with it. Three years later we moved to Stewart, BC and
bought another truck to work for the mine. In 1975, the mine closed down
so we moved to Fort Nelson, BC where we have lived ever since.
Over the years, we have worked in every
phase of logging including road building and maintenance, developing and
logging the blocks, hauling logs, block siviculture for replanting and
all phases of deactivation. We also have experience in the oilfield and
regularly work in the oilpatch.
A few years ago I heard about the
environmental requirements for the oil and gas industry and saw an
opportunity for C.F. Wright Group to add to its services. The oil and
gas industries would be required to reclaim their invert waste and other
contaminated soils due to many new and stricter rules for handling toxic
spills.
After researching the issues, I decided to
turn the family farm we've owned for nearly 20 years into a
state-of-the-art remediation farm. It was only one of three in the
province of BC and the most northern of its kind, located at Mile 285 of the
Alaska Highway. Initially, there was quite a bit of
'red tape' to get through before final approvals and many consultants'
reports were needed but we persevered and opened in June 1999. We
sold the Farm to Hazco in 2004 but can still transport waste.
That same year, talks began with UFA to
bring an agency to Fort Nelson. In a new 16,500 sq.ft. industrial building
on our property in town, we built our new head office, shop, cardlock, car
wash and convenience store. Our Grand Opening was Aug. 19, 2005.
As the kids grew so did C.F. Wright Group
but it remains a very family oriented business. My wife Karen is the
Vice-President of the company and two of our three daughters work in the
office and store. JoAnne is the Office Manger and Sandra is our Store
Manager. Lynn inherited the entrepreneurial spirit and runs a
restaurant, lodge and gas station with her husband Wayne in Check Point,
NWT. Our sons Percy and John started their own companies, Farside Logging
Limited and Just Wright Transport.
